The Evolution of Stupidity
We are what the system wants.
“The Evolution of Stupidity“ is a reflection I am working on expected to be published on January 1st, 2026 but I’d like to share in 2025 these themes because the logic of the yearly reset is what lets us start everything from the beginning: wipe out of the past, the recurrence of history as a form of “contrapasso”.
This is not about low IQ, but a functional inability to sustain attention and integrate information into judgment: what appears to be biological regression is actually the successful outcome of an optimized environment that rewards non-thinking. Why does our capacity for critical judgment seem to be so thin and superficial when we can access information as never has happened before? We have infinite access to information, yet a diminishing capacity for understanding.
More connection ---> less coherence.
More content ---> less thought.
More assistance ---> less autonomy.
More personalization ---> less common ground.
More automation ---> less skill.
We did not enter an information age, we entered an attention-scarcity age but this state is not an accident:
it is the
predictable
outcome of a system
designed to capture and monetise
our most finite resource:
attention.
The AI and what we call “innovations”? They don’t compete for attention: they reshape the way attention becomes judgement. The more “always-on” these copilots become, the more the world starts to feel like a personalised Truman Show, in which we are merely unaware spectators. There are fewer moments when we have to decide what matters because agency is just an illusion: this period is the right time when we can get our time back, before routine and the relentless churn of events suck us back into their spiral.
